Manchester post-punk four-piece IST IST have dropped an impressive new single, ‘Mary In The Black And White Room’. Warm, retro synth sounds and funky drum patterns open up the track, before a deep, hypnotic lead vocal guides us in a multitude of interesting directions. The musical atmosphere of the song is reflected in the unique lyric video that accompanies it. They describe the track as being “about trying to figure out if experience trumps knowledge. See ‘the Knowledge Argument’ where the subject, Mary, exists in a black and white world but has extensive descriptions of colour, but you don’t know if she knows what they actually look like until exposed to it.” Their upcoming album, Protagonists, drops on March 31st, 2022. -Dan Peeke.
